Missing Middle LA – Objective Design Standards for Small Lot Homes
LA City Planning invites you to join us for a focused discussion on Missing Middle LA's Objective Design Standards for Small Lot Homes.
New state and local housing policies increasingly require ministerial approval based on clear and objective standards, rather than more subjective design review. In response, Missing Middle LA is updating the City’s existing Small Lot Design Standards to make them clearer, more objective, and better suited to neighborhood-scale housing.
During this session, we will provide an overview of the proposed Objective Design Standards for Small Lot Homes, including their purpose, applicability, and key design considerations. The updated standards are intended to apply to existing Small Lot Subdivisions and projects that opt into the Starter Home Bonus Program. They aim to support:
Walkable neighborhoods and high-quality neighborhood-scale housing.
Usable open space and common areas.
The preservation of existing homes and mature trees.
Consistency with the City’s new Landscape and Site Design Ordinance.
The session includes an overview of the proposed standards and an opportunity to provide feedback on their clarity, usability, and applicability.
